1:1 - Spoils shared with Sandhausen

Boland‘s cracker not quite enough

On match-day 5 of the still fledgling season, the Löwen played host to SV Sandhausen, in a game which was to ultimately finish in a 1-1 draw. In Eintracht’s 16th clash with the club from Baden-Württemberg, Mirko Boland put the hosts in front with a stunning strike (48‘), but late on, Philipp Klingmann levelled for the visitors (83’).

The low-down

The Löwen went into the international break on the back of a 1-1 draw and an away point in Kaiserslautern. The visitors from Hardtwald slipped to a 1-2 home defeat to Fortuna Düsseldorf. Torsten Lieberknecht knew his men would need a top performance to leap-frog the opponents into fifth place in the table, whilst his opposite number, Kenan Kocak, made use of the break to make some necessary adjustments.

The line-up

In Hendrick Zuck, Steve Beitkreuz, Julius Biada and Patrick Schönfeld, Eintracht had four men definitely unavailable for the clash with SVS, making it a significant boost for Lieberknecht that he could again call upon the services of attackers Christopher Nyman and Domi Kumbela. The Swede replaced the injured Hendrick Zuck in the starting eleven. Sandhausen made two changes to their starting eleven, with Eroll Zejnullahu and Denis Linsmayer making way for Maximilian Jansen and Haji Wright.

2nd minute: An electrifying start from the Blau-Gelben. Onel Hernández fires a delivery from the left across the face of the goal, where Suleiman Abdullahi narrow fails to make a connection. Just minutes later, Manni has a go from 25 meters out, but the well-struck effort clears the crossbar.

18th minute: A first determined attack by Sandhausen, but Jasmin Fejzic is equal to the effort. On the direct break, Salim Khelifi lets fly from the right edge of the box, but fails to hit the target.

23rd minute: A cross is initially cleared but falls for Ken Reichel. The left full-back pulls the trigger immediately but drags his shot wide of the mark.

24th minute: The next chance for Reichel. Abdullahi leaves the ball to run through for Hernandez, who drags back a pass from the by-line. Reichel gets his shot away, but SVS keeper Marcel Schuhen is equal to the defender’s effort and quickly alert again to deny Nyman’s attempt on the rebound.

34th minute: Great stop by Fejzic! From a Daghfous free-kcik on the right, Karl gets in a header, but the Eintracht keeper goes full stretch to make a fine save.

48th minute: What a goal for Eintract by Mirko Boland, to make it 1_0! An absolute stunner! Boland takes possession outside the box, sets himself up and fires an unstoppable drive into the top right corner. The stadium is rocking now and the Blau-Gelben are in front.

51st minute: The Löwen look to add to their advantage, with Hernandez trying his luck on the turn. The shot lands the wrong side of the post.

68th minute: The next opening for the Blau-Gelben! Samson wins possession in midfield and plays through to Kumbela. The striker gets a shot in but is denied by Schuhen.

76th minute: New Löwen-signing Yildirim immediately catches the eye with a clever combination. Eintracht’s number 7 sends Hernández on his way. The delivery is cleared for a corner.

83rd minute: Goal for SV Sandhauen by Philipp Klingmann to make it 1-1. Stiefler combines with Höler and Fejzic initally makes a block with his foot, but the Löwen are unable to effectively clear their lines and Klingmann pounces to net the equaliser.
