Löwen share the spoils with Aue

Salim Khelifi on target with the 1-1 equaliser

On the third match-day of the season, Eintracht Braunschweig played out a 1-1 draw with FC Erzgebirge Aue. The visitors, who arrived at EINTRACHT-STADION as bottom side in the table. Took the lead in the 24th minute through Dimitrij Nazarov. Just two minutes later, the hosts were back on level terms through a Salim Khelifi equaliser. On the night, there was no more than a share of the spoils in it for the Löwen.

The low-down

Following the cup exit away to Holstein Kiel, the Löwen were eager to get back on track with three home points against FC Erzgebirge Aue her. The visitors had anything but an ideal start to their campaign and following two league defeats and elimination from the cup, coach Thomas Letsch was relieved of his duties. Robin Lenk took charge of the Veilchen on a caretaker basis.

The line-up

Torsten Lieberknecht had three absentees to deal with on the night. The injured Patrick Schönfeld and Domi Kumbela were joined in the sick-bay by Steve Breitkreuz. The Eintracht coach opted to make four changes to his starting eleven. Eros Dacaj made his professional debut on Friday evening, whilst Julius Biada, Salim Khelifi and Maximilian Sauer all got the nod from the outset.

Highlights

9th minute: A warning for the hosts. Nazarov goes down in the centre of the park and everyone expects the referee to blow for a free-kick, but play is allowed to continue and Aue are quickest to react. Fejzic advances from his goal and is beaten with the shot from Tiffert, but Baffo fires himself in the way of the effort to deny Erzgebirge.

12th minute: On the break, Dacaj lets fly from distance and Männel can only parry, but there are no Blau-Gelben on hand to capitalise.

22nd minute: What a chance for the Löwen! Khelifi toe-pokes the ball away from his opponent and breaks on the right. The delivery eludes Zuck but falls for Nyman. The striker gets a shot in on goal, but Männel does wellt o turn the ball away for a corner.

24th minute: Goal for Erzgebirge Aue by Dimitrij Nazarov to make it 0-1. From a corner, the Löwen are packed in their own penalty-area. A long deliver from Tiffert drops for Nazarov, who lets fly from the edge of the box with a perfectly executed volley, to put the hosts in front.

26th minute: GOOOAAALLL for Eintracht by Salim Khelifi to make it 1-1!!! The Blau-Gelben with an immediate response. A long ball forward is laid back by Nyman into the path of Khelifi, who meets the loose ball perfectly with his left-boot from distances and fires into the top left corner!

47th minute: The visitors have the first opportunity of the second-hald. Tiffert fires on goal from a tight angle, getting his shot past Fejzic and Baffo, but Valsvik slides in to clear off the line.

65th minute: Fejzic is alert and reacts impressively. A powerful drive by Bertram is finger-tipped away by the Eintracht keeper.

71st minute: Decaj sets himself up with a free-kick from 25 meters out, but the midfielder’s drive is turned away with a flying save from Aue keeper Männel.
